Lightning arrestors are designed to handle ambient discharge from close-proximity storms. They are not rated for extreme high-voltage direct strikes. Best used as part of an existing lightning protection system, or where direct-strike protection is not required.
The Workman A28 uses a spark-chamber design. A PL-259 male connector sits on one end and an SO-239 female on the other, with a conductor running through the center of the chamber. When high voltage is detected, the chamber flashes over between the conductor and the ground plane, diverting current away from your radio equipment.
Installation tip: Connect the grounding screw to earth ground using 8 AWG wire. A 3-foot ground rod works well. Tighten the set screw against the chamber, then back off approximately 1 mm for optimal performance.
Note: Not compatible with bare-wire antennas. Designed for use with standard coaxial cable only.
