📋 What You’ll Need (Tools List)

🔧
Phillips screwdriver
(to remove bottom cover)
🔥
Soldering iron
(fine tip recommended)
🧼
Solder wick or desoldering pump
(Not a Necessity but highly recommended due to clean and/or removing the component)
🔌
12V power supply + antenna
(for testing)

🛠️ Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prepare & Open the Radio

  • Disconnect all cables (power, antenna, microphone).
  • Place the radio upside down on a clean, static-free surface.
  • Remove the screws holding the Top cover (usually 4-6 Phillips screws).
  • Gently lift off the Top cover. Be careful not to damage any internal wires.

Step 2: Locate the Component (Video Timestamp 2:10)

  • Look at the main PCB (printed circuit board).
  • Find the small Pattern as seen in the image below

Step 3: Perform the Modification (Video Timestamp 2:10 – 3:00)

  • Heat your soldering iron to ~350°C (650°F).
  • Use a small piece of wire to bridge the connections
  • Make sure the two pads are clean and no solder bridges remain.
  • Do NOT remove or add any other components — only the one shown in the video.
⚠️ Tip: Take your time. Make sure when soldering you heat up the board and the extra wire to ensure a solid connection. If you're not comfortable soldering, take it to a professional CB shop.

Step 4: Reassemble & Test

  • Replace the Top cover and tighten all screws.
  • Reconnect power, antenna, and microphone.
  • Power on the radio.
  • Go into the menu (or use the Band/VFO switch as shown in similar Stryker models) and select Band 4 (or the 11-meter / CB band).
  • The radio will now transmit and receive on the full 11-meter CB band (26.965 – 27.405 MHz, 40 channels).
  • Test transmit power and modulation on a dummy load first, then on the air.

✅ After the Mod – Quick Tips

  • Properly tune your antenna (SWR under 1.5:1 is ideal).
  • Enjoy full 11-meter operation with the SR-655HPC’s 60+ watt PEP output.
  • Keep your original 10-meter capability if you ever reinstall the jumper.
  • Many users also perform a full alignment after the mod (optional but recommended).
Legal Note: In the United States, transmitting on CB frequencies requires no license, but you must stay within legal power limits (4 watts carrier / 12 watts PEP on AM). Export radios like the Stryker can exceed this — use responsibly and legally.
